Tri-Cityisms
August 21, 2007 - Pastor Todd Tjepkema

I have started to collect the little sayings we often use around here. Some are original, some are modifications of other quotes, but they are all things you're bound to hear if you stick around Tri-City long enough.

ANGER/BITTERNESS

  • Anger: the unmet expectation of fairness.
  • Repeated acts of kindness are often wasted on the angry.
  • Bitterness: the poison pill you swallow hoping someone else will die.

BIBLE

  • Bible study doesn’t take a long time, it takes a lifetime.

CHILDREN

  • You must be what you want your children to be.

CRISIS

  • God uses crisis to reveal you to yourself.
  • God brings discomfort in our lives to cause us to know Him more and serve Him better.
  • Your biggest problem in life is yourself.
  • God never wastes pain.
  • That which is good is that which draws me into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • What is good for me does not always feel good.
  • Not until you admit that your discomfort is your fault will you experience peace.
  • Christ is the prescription for the ills of life, often what we need to do is increase the dosage.
  • The problems are not the problem.

FEAR

  • No God, Know fear;
    Know God, No fear.

FORGIVENESS

  • Forgiveness: the cure for the pains of life.
  • The way to get along with God is for the innocent forgive the guilty.

GLORY

  • Glory: the visible manifestation of one’s essence.

JOY

  • Joy: the quiet confidence that God is in control.
  • As long as you blame others you will never know joy.
  • Jesus
    Others
    You
  • God isn’t concerned with your comfort but with your conformity.
  • God isn’t concerned with your happiness but with your holiness.

LEADERSHIP

  • Teach, model, correct to the standard
  • My last point and then we’re done.
  • Responsibility: completing a task so that it will endure testing.

PEOPLE

  • People are the silliest people.
  • You can’t carve rotten wood.
  • The only difference between most 2 year olds and 62 year olds is height and weight.
  • The only difference between most 2 year olds and 42 year olds is the 42 year old doesn’t complain about taking a nap.
  • Two indisputable facts: There is a God and you're not Him.

SERVANT

  • Servants ain't got no rights.
  • Everyone wants to be a servant; they just don’t want to be treated like one.

SANCTIFICATION

  • Sanctification: the Spirit of God using the Word of God to change us into the Image of God.
  • Submission is not submission until I properly respond to the word "no".
  • Good doctrine is about a life lived, not facts able to be repeated.
  • Humility is the key to accessing the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • A stable life is the result of biblically dealing with heart issues.

TONGUE

  • Tongue: the dipstick of the heart.
  • Idle words reveal the idol of our hearts.

WISDOM

  • Wisdom: the ability to make repeated biblical choices in all circumstances.
  • Common sense isn’t common.

WORRY

  • Anxiety demonstrates a lack of faith in God’s promises.

About Pastors' Posts

The pastors of Tri-City Baptist Church have a wide variety of experience and education. This variety brings a richness to our ministry. Our pastors will post articles on topics near and dear to them. Every few days there will be a new article. Feel free to communicate with the author with any comments or questions. Part of Tri-City's mission is "to assist its members and other fundamental churches...in fulfilling the Great Commission." That is the purpose of this site. It is tied directly to our vision for our ministry. We trust it will be a blessing to you.
