Easter Services - April 22 & 24, 2011
Easter Sunday is a wonderful day for all Christians. We set this day aside to remember our Lord's resurrection from the dead. Though all Sundays are, to an extent, celebrations of Christ's resurrection, Easter Sunday is more specifically used to recall that glorious event. In order to fully appreciate the wonder of the resurrection, it is important to remember the grief of the cross. Tri-City Baptist Church's Good Friday service gave the church family the opportunity to do just that. The International Baptist College Chamber Singers and College Choir sang Ellingboe's Requiem along with the church choir. A requiem is a funeral service and it was fitting to sing it on Good Friday in memory of Christ's death on the cross so many years ago. The service was sobering and everyone left in silence to reinforce the thought that Christ was dead.
But the story does not end there. Easter Sunday is a joyful time of celebration, a reminder that God triumphed and death was vanquished. The services on Sunday began with a "Sonrise" service. This was followed by a continental breakfast in the gym and then the morning worship service. Pastor Stertzbach led the congregation in reading passages from Scripture to introduce the pieces performed by the choir and orchestra. Pastor Mike then spoke on the the subject "What Does the Resurrection Mean to You?" The congregation joined the choir in singing When I Survey the Wondrous Cross to close the service.
