Missions Conference - September 19-22, 2010

The 12th Annual Missions Conference for International Baptist Missions, held September 19-22, 2010, was significant—it was the last conference under IBM General Director, Dr. Dave Sproul. He will be turning over the leadership of IBM to Pastor Larry Ball on October 23, 2010. Two of Dr. Sproulís dear friends spoke at the conference: IBM missionary Mike Redick and Dr. Doug Jackson, a pastor from Michigan who is on IBMís Cooperating Board. They preached excellent messages to the church as well as in the TCA and IBC chapels.

All regular weekly Tri-City Baptist Church events were canceled so everyone could participate in the conference which was wonderfully blessed with the presence of the Lord in each session. The conference began with Mike Redick speaking to a combined Adult Bible Fellowship on Sunday morning. Rarely has a missionary had such a widespread impact in the number of countries affected as well as the number of decisions made by individuals for Christ. Before Dr. Jacksonís sermon in the Sunday morning service, Pastor Ball surprised Dr. Dave and Kay Sproul by presenting gifts and letters of appreciation from the IBM missionaries in recognition of the upcoming leadership transition.

Then Solomon Raju gave a presentation about his ministries in India; he also spoke later in the elementary and high school TCA chapels as well as the IBC chapel. Brother Redick and Dr. Jackson both preached Sunday through Tuesday evenings. Pastor Ball and Dr. Dave Sproul concluded the conference on Wednesday night with timely messages on "Jonah: the Reluctant Missionary" and being "Addicted to Missions." Overall, the preaching was convicting, thought provoking, and resulted in many individuals making spiritual decisions.

We were blessed to have several IBM missionaries (in addition to the Redicks) attend the conference; the Mendozas from Mexico plus the Espadas and Roger Papius from Puerto Rico.

The meetings were well attended and the offerings reflected the giving hearts of our people. Many commented on the excellent messages and what a blessing they were. Some say it was the best Missions Conference that Tri-City Baptist Church and International Baptist Missions has ever had. Pastor Ball said on the last night of the conference that Dr. Sproul has "left a hard act to follow with the conference this year." Tri-City Baptist Church looks forward to another great missions conference in 2011.
