AWANA Grand Prix - March 22, 2009
Tri-City Baptist Church's 2009 AWANA Grand Prix, held on Sunday, March 22, had a little of everything: fast cars, exciting races, creative cars, food and fellowship. But the most exciting part of the event happened at the end, when Pastor Torrey Jaspers preached an evangelistic message and a visitor accepted Christ!
The Grand Prix is an event where young people (and some adults) build cars from a block of pine wood, then race them down an aluminum track using only the power of gravity. The design of the cars displayed an amazing amount of creativy; there was a car shaped like a pencil, a candy bar, lipstick, a bag of starbucks coffee beans, and an amazing Charlotte's Web scene complete with barn and exquisitely detailed, hand painted barnyard animals.
There were lots of smiles on the kids faces--they were so proud of their cars. The race is always fun, but the real gem of this event was the time parents spent with their kids designing and building the cars, and the neighbors and friends that came that would not ordinarily come to a church event.
