EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Tri-City Christian Academy believes extra curricular activities play an integral part in a student's education.  Drama, band, choir, and intra-scholastic athletics are just some of the activities that TCA offers.

FINE ARTS

Band

The TCA High School Band consistently ranks Superior One in state and regional festivals, as well as performing at the Arizona State Fair, Chandler City Festival of Lights and various other venues throughout the community. The focus on faithful, diligent practice results in the development of the technique and musicianship of each individual member, as well of the ensemble as a whole. The TCA band program produces young musicians who are well-equipped to represent our school and serve our Lord.

The TCA band program begins in fourth grade, when Susie Yuen teaches all the students to play recorder. This provides a foundation for note reading, proper sound production, and musicality, preparing the students for involvement in band. All students are encouraged to choose an instrument and join the 5th grade band. Susie Yuen teaches private and group lessons on standard, concert band instruments for 5th-12th grade during the school day at a time that will not hinder the student academically. Lessons are directly applicable to the students' involvement in the TCA band program.

Choir

The TCA choral program is team-taught by Theresa Trogen and Dave Stertzbach. The graded choral curriculum moves singers through the early elementary years of finding the singing voice through the performance of standard choral repertoire in late high school. The choirs emphasize healthy vocal production, music literacy and the spiritual nature of singing. Mrs. Trogen and Pastor Stertzbach have been teaching students of all ages for a combined total of over 30 years.

The TCA High School Choir consistently ranks Superior One in state and regional festivals, as well as performing at the Arizona State Fair, Chandler City Festival of Lights and various other venues throughout the community. Through its emphasis on thorough education, quality performance and spiritual application, the TCA choir program is a first-rate ambassador for our school and our Lord.

Suzuki Strings & Piano Lessons

Eunice Elie, the president of the Suzuki Association of Arizona, offers excellent instruction on piano and string instruments (violin, viola and cello). With the Suzuki method's emphasis on ear training and early technique mastery, students as young as three may take lessons. The program includes private lessons, group lessons and cross-curricular activities with the TCA choral program.

Parents are expected to attend lessons with their child where they are taught to guide him or her in effective practice. Lessons are taught during the school day at a time that will not hinder the student academically and during the early evening hours.

Traditional Piano Lessons

Shannon Doney has been teaching private piano lessons for over 20 years. Her structured, encouraging approach is effective at producing pianists with strong technique, fluent literacy and vaired repetoire experiences. Lessons take place during the school day at a time that will not hinder the student academically. Students may begin lessons in the third grade.

SPORTS AND ATHLETICS

Tri-City Christian Academy offers a wide range of extracurricular opportunities that complement the academic life. TCA offers Boys Varsity Soccer and Girls Varsity Volleyball in the fall which competes against schools all over the state of Arizona. Our athletes compete in the Charter Athletic Association (CAA), and in the winter we offer basketball for both the men's and women's programs. In the spring we offer a full schedule including golf, baseball, softball, soccer, track, or co-ed intramurals that brings everyone together for fun and fellowship. We also have an elementary program that runs after school soccer and basketball for 3rd through 6th Grade boys and girls.

CHESS CLUB

Tri-City Christian Academy's chess club offers students the opportunity to improve their reasoning and logic skills for the glory of God. It is designed for the beginner as well as the advanced player, and is available for students K-12. The TCA Chess Club is sanctioned by the USCF (United States Chess Federation), and fields a team for scholastic competitions. We compete with numerous schools around the valley and throughout Arizona.
