Dakota's Run Raises Over $6000 - February 12, 2011
Over 200 people turned out on Saturday, February 12 to participate in Dakota's Run. This was a fundraiser for the family of a Tri-City Christian Academy Kindergarten student who was diagnosed with leukemia shortly before school started last August. The purpose of the run, aside from raising money, was to show support for Dakota's family.
Dakota's Kindergarten teacher, Ori Whitehouse, had the idea of holding a fundraiser after she heard the news of Dakota's diagnosis. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Endurance (FCAE) arranged the event. The FCA Endurance is an organization for adult Christian athletes and supporters of endurance athletics. The FCAE has a variety of events that give the athletes a witnessing platform, such as volunteering at sporting events and hosting its own events and classes.
TCA hosted the run. There were 215 who walked or ran in the event, supported by 33 volunteers. Dunkin' Donuts and Fresh & Easy donated food and water to the event, which raised over $6000.
Though her leukemia has been categorized as in remission, Dakota continues her chemotherapy treatments. Her family is thankful for the way that God has blessed them through TCA and their home church, North Valley Baptist, during this time.Click here to view more photos.
