A highly successful first year of Music Camp! Over 20 piano, string, and voice campers from across the state (and some from Mexico and California) participated in group rehearsals, workshops, private lessons, and electives July 19-23, 2010. On Thursday afternoon, they performed at Horizon Bay Retirement Center where the antiphonal choir song was a favorite of the residents. The week culminated in the Grand Finale Concert on Friday night. All the campers participated in groups and ensembles. The Camp Handbell Choir performed spectacularly, and a piano quintet concluded with a rousing Sousa march.
But music wasn't the only focus this week. Pastor Mark Maxwell's evening messages challenged hearts to love and obey the Lord in everything. The campers also remarked how they especially appreciated Pastor James Yuen's practical group discussions that focused on the names of God.
Meanwhile, Discover Music! Camp for Kids provided a fun-filled week of musical learning for 22 campers in 1st-6th grade. They sang songs, played instruments, enjoyed musical games, and painted pictures accompanied by music. The campers loved Pastor Jim and his friend, Max, who shared Bible stories for morning chapels. One camper accepted Christ! The exciting week concluded with a Friday "Informance" for family and friends as well as a special appearance of the students in the Grand Finale Concert.
