Mrs. Tiffany Brock of the IBC music faculty recently completed her fourth and final recital in partial completion of her master's degree in collaborative piano from Arizona State University. The Katzin Hall in downtown Tempe was filled to near capacity by the audience of over 300 for the one-night-only performance. Mrs. Brock started her concert by collaborating with violinist Sarah Scheffler on "Concert Fantasy on Gershwin's Porgy and Bess" based on hit tunes from the opera. The audience sat spellbound as the two demonstrated the 20th century techniques that make the piece so popular. Mrs. Brock's research led her to a transcription from the Czech Republic that is rarely heard in the United States. Her teacher was so impressed with it that he and his wife will be performing the same version in their own recital! Next on the program were both sets of Aaron Copland's Old American Songs. The enjoyable settings were intelligently and charismatically performed by Alexis Davis and Earl Hazell. The second half of the program was Mrs. Brock's concert version of the award winning Broadway musical The Secret Garden. Her cast of nine performers featured IBC sophomore Gerald Penny as well as Melissa Larsen and Isaac Jaspers, both of Tri-City Ministry's Christian academy. The rest of the cast was made up of graduate and undergraduate students of ASU. Afterward, an elegant reception was staged by the choir members of Tri-City Baptist Church during which Mrs. Brock's church family was introduced to her teachers and colleagues at ASU. Congratulations, Mrs. Brock!
