The Joseph Scholarship

This scholarship is given in memory of Joseph Merrill, Jr. to a junior or senior who exemplifies a spirit of service, humility, integrity, and faithfulness.

The Joseph Scholarship honors the memory of Joseph Merrill, Jr. who was tragically taken from the student body during the Grand Canyon Hike of 2009.

This scholarship reminds us of the biblical character Joseph. Though God’s path for Joseph was difficult and fraught with hardship, he remained faithful to his God. As a result "the LORD was with Joseph." Joseph’s life testifies that, although circumstances may rise against us, we may acknowledge that "God meant it unto good."

This memorial scholarship is established for two purposes: to honor Joseph Merrill, Jr. who exemplified many of the characteristics of the biblical character Joseph and to remind the IBC family of God’s sovereignty and goodness in difficult circumstances.
