Discover Music! Camp for Kids

Arrival

Registration and Check-In is Monday, July 18, from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the Church Foyer.

Program

  • Two separate programs will be held simultaneously, grades 1–3 and grades 4–6.
  • Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day.
  • Late-stay and early arrival childcare is available through Summer Enrichment.

Recorders

  • Grades 4–6 will play recorders.
  • Bring your own recorder or purchase one at camp.
  • Yamaha recorders will sell for $6 (camper's name will be engraved in the recorder).

Music Faculty

  • Dr. Karen Kuehmann
    Dr. Kuehmann is currently teaching general music at Frank School in Guadalupe, AZ. She was a member of the Bob Jones University music education and woodwind faculty in South Carolina for 30 years before returning to Arizona to pursue a love of teaching music to children. Dr. Kuehmann also led the team that wrote the Music for Christian Schools and Perspectives in Music curricula for BJU Press. She earned her undergraduate degree in music education and a master's degree in flute performance from Bob Jones University. Dr. Kuehmann also holds a doctorate in music education from Arizona State University.
  • Beth Christensen
    Mrs. Christensen is the general music teacher at Boulder Creek Elementary in Gilbert, AZ. She also maintains a private piano studio and has served as a music specialist with the Yamaha Music Corp. She graduated with a B.A. in music education from Henderson State University where she participated in every single performing group from band to opera workshop!

Departure

Camp will officially end after the final concert on Friday evening.

Camper Limit

A maximum of 40 campers will be accepted for each program (Grades 1–3 and Grades 4–6). Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. A waiting list will be created when the maximum is reached.

Music Camp for Strings Grade 4–6

  • Campers in grades 4–6 who play string instruments (minimum of two years) may attend Discover Music! and Music Camp
  • String campers in grades 4–6 will attend Discover Music! Camp for Kids from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Music Camp from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • String campers will register for Music Camp and will not need to register separately for Discover Music! Camp for Kids.

Full Day Camp Option

Discover Music! Joins Summer Enrichment offers a full day camp option to Discover Music! campers. Summer Enrichment provides quality childcare in a fun setting, including many off-campus fieldtrips. Campers may participate in Summer Enrichment from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Campers may choose to participate in Summer Enrichment activities for weekly, daily, or hourly prices. Early Stay

Free childcare for early arrival (7:30–8:30 a.m.) is also provided to those participating in Discover Music! Joins Summer Enrichment.

Campers who need to arrive earlier than 7:30 a.m. can make special arrangements through Time for Tots. Participants must enroll and pay through Time for Tots.
