Bachelor of Arts in Education - Elementary
The student in Bible and Teacher Education with the Elementary Emphasis is required to complete the following course of study:
Bible and Theology, 30 hours
General Education, 46 hours
Christian Service Core, 15 hours
Teacher Education Methods, 40 hours
General Electives, 2 hours
Mission
The mission of the Teacher Education program at International Baptist College is to equip a generation of Christian teachers who will bring glory and pleasure to God. The education students will be equipped to minister in Christian schools and to mentor, teach, and serve in the local church.
Purposes
The purposes of Teacher Education at International Baptist College are as follows:
- To teach a biblical world and life view by exhibiting
- knowing, loving, honoring, obeying, and worshipping God,
- an active membership and ministry in a fundamental local church, and
- the desire to assist parents in educating the child.
- To develop Christian character and complete development--spiritually, academically, socially, morally, and physically.
- To prepare the student for vocational ministry and further study.
Aims
The aims of the Teacher Education programs, as shown below, are intended to help International Baptist College achieve its above stated mission and purposes. The teacher education students will
- demonstrate knowing and understanding Bible content and Christian doctrine, beginning with biblical creationism,
- demonstrate faithful ministry in the local church as reflected in his/her Christian service reports and evaluations,
- evidence a broad foundation of general knowledge and knowledge specific to selected academic fields,
- develop the ability to think critically and creatively,
- demonstrate knowledge with physiology, diet, and health to develop a lifestyle that promotes good health,
- demonstrate a biblical philosophy of life and education especially seen in student teaching,
- successfully complete the education methods courses,
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development,
- demonstrate the skills of lesson planning, presentation, and learning evaluation,
- demonstrate the ability to control a class and to correct students by being firm, fair, and friendly,
- evidence proper professional attitudes, including a love for children, and
- evidence a desire for lifelong learning.
