Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The Master of Education degree is a 33-hour program offered during one- and two-week modular periods during the winter and summer months of each year. This program consists of 4 hours of Christian Service courses, 23 hours of Education courses, and 6 hours of approved electives, e.g., courses from the Master of Ministry program. It is possible to complete the degree in three years.

Purpose

The purpose of the Master of Education program is to provide advanced professional preparation for the Christian school teacher, supervisor, and administrator.

Aims

The aims of the Master of Education program are to help International Baptist College accomplish its mission and purpose. Therefore, the Master of Education student will

  1. obtain a biblical foundation for Christian education,
  2. receive the body of professional knowledge necessary for Christian education,
  3. understand and respect the biblical fundamentals of the historic faith,
  4. transfer professional knowledge to on-the-job performance,
  5. prepare for leadership in the Christian school,
  6. become proficient in practical skills, and
  7. understand the necessity of excellence and of further study in education.

Entrance Requirements

An approved bachelor's degree is prerequisite to admission to the M.Ed. program. Students are expected to have backgrounds in education, administrational leadership, Bible, or Christian service. The prospective student's experience will be considered as well as his or her formal education. The final decision regarding the evaluation of a student's application, previous education, experience, and admission rests with the admissions committee of International Baptist College.

Program of Study

The program consists of Christian Service courses which help the student understand the biblical foundation of education and Education courses which help the student understand the science and art of educational administration.

The student will have the opportunity to complete a one-hour Biblical research paper (M.ED. thesis) on an approved topic. Should the M.ED. student choose the thesis option the thesis must at a minimum comply with the following requirements: 1) it must be 25-50 pages in length, 2) it must conform to the requirements concerning structure and quality established in EN 520 Christian Thesis Writing.

Graduation Requirements

In addition to the standard requirements governing all graduates of IBC, the M.ED. student must a GPA of 3.00 or better in order to graduate. No more than 12 hours may be transferred into the program from other graduate schools. No more than 8 hours may be taken by video recording unless specifically approved by the administration.
