Missions Course Descriptions

**Mi 121 Spiritual Preparation (Same as Pr 121)

one semester, one hour

An analysis of various aspects of the ministry: call to the ministry; spiritual, mental, and physical qualifications for the ministry; developing and maintaining spirituality in the ministry; prayer life of the minister; avoiding burnout; principles of leadership.

**Mi 122 Practical Preparation (Same as Pr 122)

one semester, one hour

An analysis of various aspects of the pastoral position: the work of the pastor, the pastor and his family; scheduling the day’s activities; weddings, funerals, baptisms, the Lord’s table; relations with other pastors; the pastor and his books; the call to the local church.

**Mi 131 Church Planting (Same as Pr 131)

one semester, one hour

An analysis of the qualifications of a church planter, how to choose the place for church planting, the principles of church planting, planning for the first service, the securing of facilities, the use of small groups in church planting, financing the new work, and mobilizing and organizing the people.

**Mi 141 Administration (Same as Pr 141)

one semester, one hour

An analysis of the practical aspect of hiring and leading a church staff, the second man position, selection and relationship with deacons, business meetings, constitutions, budgets, finances, and motivation of people.

**Mi 142 Promotion and Outreach (Same as Pr 142)

one semester, one hour

An analysis of the Sunday School, small group ministry, children’s programs, advertising, missions conferences, stewardship programs, evangelism, special days, visitation, soul winning, and ministries for men and women.

*Mi 151 Mentoring and Leadership (Same as Pr 151)

one semester, one hour

Understanding the basic elements of leadership, finding a life-long mentor and becoming one for others.

*Mi 211 Missions Survey

one semester, two hours

A general survey of various mission fields and mission agencies and the lives of selected great missionaries.

**Mi 273 Missions Field Study

(Prerequisite: Administrative permission required)

January term, one hour

A program of evaluation and exposure on a mission field.

*Mi 321, 322 Principles and Methods of Missions

two semesters, three hours per semester

An analysis of the biblical basis of missions, nature of a mission call, administration, support and organization of mission boards, qualification and support of candidate, adjustments on the field, and relationships to others on the field.

*Mi 331 Comparative Religions (Same as Ph 331)

one semester, two hours

A comparative survey of the major religions of the world in light of Christianity and the Bible.

**Mi 373 Missions Field Experience

(Prerequisite: Administrative permission required)

January term, two hours

A structured exposure and experience on the mission field in order to give the student a view of life and work as a missionary.

*Mi 431 Major Cults (Same as Ph 431)

one semester, two hours

Comparative studies of cults and sects in the light of fundamental biblical Christianity.

**Mi 473 Missions Field Practice

(Prerequisite: Administrative permission required)

January term, two to four hours

Practical experience dealing with problems and responsibilities as they are encountered daily on the mission field. The program will be structured to the needs of the individual student.

*Mi L03 Fundamentals of Missions

January term, one hour

A study of biblical missions, including the scriptural basis of missions, the particular call, preparation and pre-field ministry, selecting a board, ministry and problems on the field and on furlough.
