En 101 English Grammar and Composition

one semester, three hours

A study of English grammar, syntax, mechanics, spelling, and sentence and essay writing.

En 102 English Composition

one semester, three hours

A study on developing clear, forceful, and logical written expression. Media center and research procedures are studied and applied in a required paper.

En 120, 220, 320, 420 Journalism Practicum

one year, one hour per year

Practical experience on the College yearbook involving copy writing, typing, designing layouts, photographic composition, and other journalism skills.

*En 211 British Literature

one semester, three hours

A study of English masterpieces from Beowulf to the present.

*En 212 American Literature

one semester, three hours

A study of the great American writers from the colonial period to the present.

*Hi 101, 102 History of Civilization

two semesters, six hours

The history of man on earth from the advent of written records to the present from a biblical perspective.

*Hi 111, 112 U.S. History

two semesters, three hours per semester

The history of the American nation from its discovery through its colonization, settlement, struggle for independence, westward expansion, and industrial growth to its development as an international power and influence.

*Hi 211, 212 Baptist History

two semesters, two hours per semester

A study of New Testament Christianity from apostolic times to the present, including a study of the Anabaptists, the modern Baptist movement, Baptist distinctives, and Baptist polity.

**Hi 422 Reformation History

one semester, three hours

An examination of Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli, their digressions and separation from Catholicism, the cause and effect of the German, Swiss, and English Reformations, and the Roman Catholic reaction.

**Hi 432 U.S. Constitution

one semester, three hours

An analysis of the supreme law of the land and its controlling influence upon federal, state, and local governments, including an intensive study of the First Amendment rights, separation of church and state, and related Supreme Court decisions.

*Hi 452 Hymnology (same as Mu 452)

one semester, three hours

An historical survey of Christian hymnody.

*Ma 201 Business Math

one semester, three hours

A review of the basic processes of arithmetic. A study of simple business math, processes, and reports.

**PE 101, 102 Physical Education

two semesters, one hour per semester

An emphasis on conditioning and physical fitness using aerobics and some individual as well as small team sports. May be waived if the student is 25 years old or older by the first day of class, has had military service, or has an acceptable medical reason.

**PE 110, 210, 310, 410 Basketball

one semester, one hour per semester

An applied study of personal skill competencies in basketball.

**PE 120, 220, 320, 420 Volleyball

one semester, one hour per semester

An applied study of personal skill competencies in volleyball.

**PE 371 Coaching

one semester, one hour

A study and development of fundamental coaching techniques along with a philosophy of coaching as a help to those students planning to teach in Christian schools. Flexibility, improvisation, and the ability to scale down a sports program will be stressed.

*Ph 301 Introduction to Philosophy

one semester, three hours

A study in the foundations of philosophy, the use of logical reasoning, a survey of some philosophical systems, with comparison to biblical philosophy.

*Ph 331 Comparative Religions (Same as Mi 331)

one semester, two hours

A comparative survey of the major religions of the world in light of Christianity and the Bible.

*Ph 431 Major Cults (Same as Mi 431)

one semester, two hours

A study of cults, sects, and "isms" in comparison with fundamental Christianity.

**Ps 214 Camp Counseling

one semester, three hours

A study of basic principles of counseling individuals and groups concerning spiritual needs with application of biblical principles to problems of life including practical experience assignments with young people in camp work.

*Ps 301 Biblical Psychology

one semester, three hours

A scriptural study of the immaterial part of man and a general introduction to psychology with an emphasis on the spirit and soul and their direct relationship to the Christian life.

*Ps 302 Educational Psychology

one semester, three hours

A study of psychology as it relates to the theories of learning and their application in a classroom environment.

*Ps 411 Child and Adolescent Psychology

one semester, three hours

A study of child and adolescent behavior with special emphasis placed on the spiritual, mental, and parental influences involving the home, church, and school.

*Ps 412 Biblical Counseling

one semester, two hours

A study of counseling using biblical principles identifying secular theories and practices of counseling.

*Ps 422 Family and Marriage

one semester, two hours

A study of responsibilities of courtship, marriage, and child rearing from a biblical perspective.

**Sc 212 Science and the Bible

January term, two hours

A defense of the biblical record of creation, the universal flood, and other topics under attack by secular science.

*Sc 301, 302 Biological Science Survey

two semesters, three hours per semester

A non-laboratory survey of botany, zoology, and physiology with an emphasis on the origin, structure, function, and development of life.

Sp 101, 102 Fundamentals of Speech

two semesters, three hours per semester

A study of fundamental speech skills that enter into all speaking situations. Development of effective communication by evaluation of self, one’s audience, and the process and purpose of speech. The preparation, arrangement, and delivery of appropriate and clear communication.

*Sp 221 Interpretive Speech (Prerequisite: Sp 101 and 102) one semester,

three hours

Principles and techniques of platform presentation highlighting voice and diction skills, Bible reading, story telling, poetry, and dramatic presentations.

*Sp 222 Persuasive Speech (Prerequisite: Sp 101 and 102)

one semester, three hours

Principles and techniques of argumentation and formal debate with special attention to research and development of persuasive content, persuasive delivery, flexible response to an opponent’s argument, and confident application of formal debate structure.
